Solar Services
There are two methods of converting solar energy into energy that can be used in the home:
- Photovoltaic systems convert the energy in the sun’s rays into electric current. An inverter then converts the low voltage DC current into 230 V AC current.
- Solar heating systems convert the energy in the sun’s radiation into thermal energy. Thermal energy can be used, for example, for central heating backup or to provide hot water.
The intensity of the sun’s rays varies at different times of the year. During the sunnier months between May and September, up to 90% of the thermal energy requirements may be covered with solar heating systems. But even in December, the low-lying sun can still contribute around 25%.
The potential and efficiency of any system will depend upon the orientation of the roof or walls that the panels are mounted on. South facing roofs perform best of all. We can advise on the suitability of your property.
