Government Pay-back Scheme

Under legislation that came into effect in April 2010, you may be able to sell back to an energy company any surplus electricity that you do not use, generating a healthy annual return. The scheme called “The Feed in Tariff” is designed to pay you for every kilowatt hour of electricity you generate and is over and above the money you could get by selling the electricity you generate to your energy supplier.

The government pay-back scheme isn’t just about electricity; you may benefit from installing air or ground source heat pumps. From June 2011, the government’s Renewable-Heat Incentive (RHI) is promising to pay you for every kilowatt of heat you generate using renewable energy. This is designed to help you with the capital cost of installation of renewable energy.
